A diagnosis is not the end of your story.

Diving Beyond MS is a nonprofit community connecting people living with MS to adaptive scuba diving — because life with MS doesn't end with a diagnosis, it just means finding a new way to swim.

A diagnosis changes your path. It doesn't stop your movement. We aren't here to offer a rigid program or a perfect roadmap. We're here to show you what's possible — by sharing our own journey through the challenges, the logistics, and the incredible freedom we find beneath the surface. You can still pursue adventure, stay active, and find your own "new way to swim."

Right now, we're a small but growing collective of people choosing to see what we're still capable of. We share the tools and stories that make getting back in the water easier, and we're building toward a space where anyone navigating life with MS can find a community that understands: this diagnosis doesn't mean facing the unknown alone.

My Journey: Finding Freedom in Water

Hi, I'm Adriana! I was a mermaid long before I was an MS patient. As a kid, I'd wear red pantyhose on my head to mimic Ariel. Today, my long hair is still a piece of my identity—a reminder that the "makeshift mermaid" survived to become the real thing. But my path to the ocean wasn't just a fairy tale; it was carved out by the necessity of survival after a life-altering diagnosis.

The Diagnosis

For years, I ignored the "weird" signals my body was sending. By 2020, the truth caught up with me: I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, later confirmed as Primary Progressive MS (PPMS). Life on land started to feel heavier, and as my mobility changed—from walking to using a cane, and eventually a wheelchair—I found myself searching for a place where I didn't feel limited.

Finding My Flow

I found that sanctuary in the water. In the ocean, the buoyancy acts like a reset button. The weight of my symptoms vanishes, and I am no longer a patient—I am a diver.
The road wasn't easy. I was once told I couldn't dive because of my diagnosis, but I refused to listen. I found the right instructors, pushed through the trial by fire of certification, and proved that I could adapt. When I sink beneath the waves, the chair and the canes disappear. I am weightless. I am home.

Diving Beyond MS

I realized I couldn't just keep this freedom to myself. I started documenting my dives and the logistics of navigating the world with MS to show others that a diagnosis is not a dead end. That's how Diving Beyond MS was born — what started as my own documentation became a community.
We are here for those of us who refuse to let MS define our boundaries. We are here to show the world that we are still capable of extraordinary things. Whether you're a diver or someone just looking for proof of what's possible, I'm glad you're here. Life hasn't stopped—it's just found a new, more fluid rhythm.
